"I came to Finding Your Bearings not really knowing what to expect. I had always found money confusing — the terminology, the Thai bank statements I could never quite follow. By the third session I actually felt like I understood what I was looking at. The pace was exactly right for me."

"A Steady Light was something I did not know I needed until I was halfway through it. The recorded sessions were genuinely useful — I listened to some of them again at home with my wife. The planning notebook became something we both used together."

"I appreciated that nobody tried to sell me anything. That sounds like a small thing but it is not — I have been to seminars where the whole point was to sell a product at the end. Here it was just information, delivered calmly. I left each session feeling steadier, not anxious."

"The Far Beacon Programme was ten weeks well spent. I came in wanting to understand my options for the next fifteen years — pensions, healthcare, how to think about what I might need. The planning folder is something I refer to regularly now. I did not feel rushed at any point."

"What I valued most was the small group. There were only six of us, and that made a real difference. Questions that might have felt embarrassing in a large room felt perfectly natural here. Nathaporn took time with each person."

"I have tried reading about finance on my own and it just does not stick. Having it explained in person, with examples from actual Thai banks and actual Thai forms, made a surprising difference. I also liked the printed guide — I still have it on my desk."

Case Studies
A closer look at three participant journeys
Case Study · Finding Your Bearings
Starting from scratch at 52
The Challenge
A retired schoolteacher from Phuket Town who had always left financial matters to her husband. After a change in family circumstances, she found herself needing to understand banking and monthly budgeting from the beginning — with very little financial vocabulary and a lot of anxiety about getting things wrong.
The Approach
She joined Finding Your Bearings and spent three sessions working through budgeting, savings accounts, and how to read her bank statements. The group of five others at a similar starting point made the environment feel safe. She took the printed guide home and worked through the exercises at her own pace.
Three Months On
She now manages her own accounts with confidence, tracks her monthly spending using a simple system she developed from the course worksheets, and has since enrolled in A Steady Light to go further. In her words: "I no longer feel like I am guessing."
Case Study · The Far Beacon Programme
Planning for retirement a decade out
The Challenge
A business owner in his late forties who had been focused on running his company for twenty years and had given little thought to what would happen at sixty. He understood money in a business context but felt lost when it came to personal retirement planning in Thailand.
The Approach
He completed The Far Beacon Programme over ten weeks, working through Thai pension structures, healthcare cost estimates, and how to think about his personal assets separately from the business. The personal planning folder became the basis for a conversation with a licensed financial advisor he later sought out.
The Outcome
He left the programme with a clear picture of his current position and a set of questions to work through with a professional. "I went into that advisor meeting knowing what to ask," he said. "Before the course I would not have known where to start."
Case Study · A Steady Light
A couple working through finances together
The Situation
A couple in their mid-forties — both working, one Thai, one British — who wanted to understand their finances together but approached money quite differently. They had separate accounts and had never properly discussed saving goals or how their money was structured.
The Approach
Both attended A Steady Light together. Having a shared experience of the course — and the same planning notebook — gave them a common language to talk about saving. The recorded lessons meant they could revisit anything that raised a question later at home.
After the Course
They came away with an agreed approach to saving and a shared sense of their short-term and medium-term financial picture. "We talk about money differently now," one of them wrote. "Less defensively, more practically. The course helped with that."
